Gyuri Sarossy

Public Speaking and Presentation Skills Trainer and Actor

Training and Education

Gyuri trained as an actor at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, winning the Carlton Hobbs Radio Drama Award in his final year. Prior to that, he graduated from Nottingham University with a First Class Honours degree in English. He is also an able French and German speaker, having lived for six months in an Emmaus community in France, and visiting various relatives in Germany.

Career

Gyuri has worked as an actor in theatre, television and radio for the last twelve years. His recent theatre work includes playing Barrington in Howard Brenton’s new adaptation of Robert Tressell’s novel The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, playing Mercutio for the RSC in Romeo and Juliet, two seasons with the Peter Hall Company in Bath, and productions for the National Theatre, Almeida Theatre and Donmar Warehouse (where he was part of Sam Mendes’ Olivier Award-winning productions of Twelfth Night and Uncle Vanya). He also played the title roles in both Macbeth and Coriolanus for Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory and has worked widely in television for the BBC and ITV companies. His work in radio includes two series of the comedy Getting Nowhere Fast for radio 4.

Alongside this, Gyuri has for the last ten years worked extensively as an actor in role-play and forum theatre, in both the public and private sectors. He has helped design and implement a variety of training interventions with clients including Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds TSB, The Law Society, Lloyds Pharmacies, O2, Dell, Maybourne Hotel Group (Claridges, Berkeley and Connaught Hotels), BPP Law School, Aon, Cancer Research Trust, Lambeth Council and Tate Britain.

For the last four years, Gyuri has also developed in-depth experience as a presentation skills coach within the city law firm Hammonds, co-creating and delivering courses from support staff to partner level across the firm’s four UK offices. This work ranged from leading large groups in a workshop setting through a variety of exercises designed to improve their public speaking, personal impact and use of PowerPoint, to the one-on-one coaching of individuals on voice production and effective body language. All this work related to the development of personal confidence and each delegate’s optimum expression both of themselves and their material.

Gyuri has also taught English at a UNESCO camp in Poland, and run schools’ education workshops on speaking Shakespearean verse.
