
Isolte Avila

Training and Education
Isolte trained with the Cuban Ballet and The Netherlands Dance Theatre. She has a degree in Dance from California Institute of the Arts where she won a scholarship from the Disney Foundation. Born in Cuba Isolte is bi-lingual in Spanish and English, she speaks fluent French, British Sign Language, Grass Roots Signing and is learning international sign. Her linguistic skills, passion for the arts and artistry make her a welcomed addition to the FocalVocal team.
Career
Isolte has worked with choreographers Ismael Ivo 1995-1998 of Stuttgart Ballet ; Milton Meyers and Alvin Ailey since 1985; Carlos Orta Limon Dance Company 1997-1999 and Ornella D’Agostino Carovana SMI 2002-2008.
Acting work has included playing Freda Kahlo in Liz Crow’s award winning film Frieda Kahlo's Corsett.
Isolte is the founder of the art form Signdance, she managed and developed the Signdance Trust from 1987 - 2001 when she formed Signdance Collective with the actor and David Bower, "Dance and sign combines to startling effect...feverish and poignant".
